Child Development Worker Program

Summary:

The Child Development Worker (CDW) Program is designed to provide employment preparation and skills training to adults (age 18 and up) for a wide range of employment opportunities in the childcare industry. 

Graduates of this program will earn their Child Development Worker Certification under the Early Learning and Child Care Development Certificate and be able to pursue careers such as (but not limited to), Early Childhood Educator and Assistant, Child and Youth Care Worker/Assistant, Child Care Worker/Daycare/Nursery, School/Pre-Kindergarten Assistants, Special Needs Assistant, Behavior Needs Assistant. 

   

Who can benefit from this program:

  • Albertans who are eligible or in receipt of  Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits or in receipt of Income Support
  • Individuals who are interested in working with children in a variety of exciting environments

Program Outline:

Employability/Essential Skills Training (3 Weeks)

  • CDW Occupational Skills Training (12 Weeks)
  • Employment Preparation and Job Search/Job Maintenance (1 Week)
  • Work Experience/Practicum (10 Weeks – 400 hours)
  • 3 Month Follow-Up
  • 6 Month Follow-Up

  Graduates from the Child Development Worker program are provided with support during a 6 month period after placement into full-time employment.  This support may take the form of individualized sessions and success coaching, and a proactive job maintenance process.

This program is funded through the Government of Alberta.
